A 55-year-old fisherman died Wednesday night after an altercation with a teenager at Dukestown, Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead is Asmat Mohamed Hussain, of Dukestown. Police said the alleged murder occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to preliminary investigations, Hussain was involved in an altercation with a 15-year-old male from Corriverton, during which he sustained injuries.
He was later taken to the No. 75 Regional Hospital, where he succumbed while receiving medical attention.
Police said the teenager was subsequently contacted and arrested. He remains in police custody assisting with the investigation.
CCTV cameras were seen in the area and are expected to be reviewed as part of the probe.
Hussain’s body is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
