A Caribbean Airlines flight out of Guyana was cancelled Thursday evening after a technical issue with the aircraft could not be resolved before departure.
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority and the management of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation confirmed that Caribbean Airlines Flight BW526, which was scheduled to depart at 5:55 p.m., was cancelled due to the technical problem.
According to the aviation authorities, Caribbean Airlines’ ground team made extensive efforts to resolve the issue, but the problem remained unresolved.
Officials from the GCAA and CJIAC later worked with senior representatives from Caribbean Airlines’ Head Office, and a joint decision was taken to cancel the flight in the interest of passenger and crew safety.
Caribbean Airlines has assured Guyanese authorities that all affected passengers are being accommodated and will be rebooked on the next available flights.
The GCAA engineering team is also working with Caribbean Airlines’ technical personnel to conduct a full inspection of the aircraft and complete the required safety assessments before it is cleared for its next departure.
The aviation authorities said passenger safety remains their highest priority.
