A 19-year-old Campbellville resident was shot in the left foot and robbed of two chains valued at $1.6 million during an armed attack on Owen Street, Kitty, Georgetown, on Monday evening.
The teenager remains hospitalised in stable condition, according to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Police said the incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. on October 5, while the young man was standing with several other people on the roadway.
Two unidentified men reportedly approached on an XR motorcycle. The pillion rider dismounted with a handgun and ordered the group not to move.
According to investigators, the teenager ran, prompting the gunman to fire several rounds. One struck his left foot, causing him to fall.
Police said the attacker then took two yellow metal chains from the injured teenager before returning to the waiting motorcycle. Both suspects escaped.
The teenager was taken to a private medical facility, where he was admitted for treatment.
Investigators have identified CCTV cameras in the area and intend to review the footage as part of their enquiries. No arrests have been made.
