A post-mortem examination has confirmed that seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed, who was killed at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, died from an incised wound to the neck.

The autopsy was carried out on Monday by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh. Information emerging from the examination indicates that the child also bore sharp and blunt force injuries about his body, findings said to be consistent with the use of a knife.

Following the post-mortem, Adriel’s body was handed over to his family for burial. The development came as investigators continued to piece together the circumstances surrounding the brutal attack, which left the boy dead and his 72-year-old great-grandmother seriously injured.

Reports are that a 23-year-old man arrested on Saturday has since allegedly admitted to the crime after detectives reportedly confronted him with digital evidence linking him to the scene.

Police sources indicated that investigators secured electronic evidence placing the suspect at the house when the attack occurred. After being shown the material, the man allegedly confessed and gave details about the incident.
Investigators had also recovered a knife from the crime scene. The suspect is said to have identified that weapon as the one used in the attack on the child and the elderly woman.

Adriel was killed early Friday morning while he was at home with his great-grandmother. The elderly woman survived the attack and remains under medical care. The investigation is continuing.
