Man’s body found floating in Georgetown canal

Police are trying to identify a man whose partially decomposed body was found floating in a canal near Lombard and Sussex Streets in Georgetown on Monday morning.

The unidentified man, who is believed to be in his late 40s, was discovered in the vicinity of a koker at Lombard and Sussex Streets.

Police said a machine operator attached to the Mayor and City Council made the discovery at about 07:00hrs. According to investigators, the operator observed the body floating in the canal and raised an alarm.

Police ranks later visited the location, where the partially decomposed body was seen clad in a blue checkered shirt, black pants and black boots.

The body was examined, but police said no marks of violence were observed. It was later removed and taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing.
