Police are investigating an alleged robbery under arms committed on a 30-year-old self-employed woman at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 13:00 hrs on July 2, 2026, shortly after the woman exited a supermarket in the area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was walking along a street when two men in a white motor car approached her.
Police said one of the suspects, who was reportedly armed with a knife, exited the vehicle, pointed the weapon at the woman, and relieved her of one yellow metal chain and one yellow metal ring.
During the robbery, the victim sustained injuries to one of her fingers. The matter was later reported to police, and based on information received, ranks intercepted the motor car in Georgetown.
The driver, identified only as a 33-year-old man of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was arrested and placed into custody.
Police said a knife and the motor car were lodged as investigations continue.
Efforts are being made to locate the second suspect. Investigations are ongoing.
