A 38-year-old security officer died following a confrontation at a shop in front of his La Retraite, West Bank Demerara (WBD), home on Friday night, during which customers reportedly intervened after he allegedly assaulted his common-law wife.
Dead is Nicolas Boyce, who police found lying motionless in a pool of blood with a suspected stab wound to the left side of his neck.
The incident occurred between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on October 30 at La Retraite Public Road.
According to preliminary police investigations, Boyce was at the shop while his 31-year-old partner was attending to customers when an argument developed between them.
Police said Boyce allegedly assaulted the woman, prompting three male customers to intervene. He then reportedly pulled a knife from his pocket, and the men began pushing him away.
Ranks who visited the scene recovered a knife a short distance from where his body was found. It was secured as part of the investigation.
Boyce was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.
His partner was also taken to the hospital for medical attention. Her condition is listed as stable.
Police subsequently arrested a 38-year-old man from La Retraite Backdam who had been present at the location. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Investigators identified CCTV cameras in the area and said footage would be reviewed.
