A 25-year-old security guard was shot dead Wednesday night while on duty at a supermarket along the Non Pareil Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is Keion Wilman, of Dazzel Housing Scheme. Police said the shooting occurred at about 9:25 p.m. According to preliminary investigations, Wilman was stationed at the entrance of the supermarket when two men reportedly arrived on a motorcycle.
One of the men allegedly discharged a firearm in Wilman’s direction before both suspects escaped on the motorcycle. Wilman sustained gunshot injuries to his upper body and was rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
Investigators recovered a suspected warhead and a suspected live 9mm round from the scene. Police also recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and four live cartridges that had been issued to Wilman for his duties as an armed security officer. The firearm and ammunition were lodged as part of the investigation.
CCTV footage from the area has since been obtained as detectives work to identify and locate the two suspects.
Wilman’s body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police said investigations are ongoing.
