A 29-year-old salesman was charged Wednesday with two counts of manslaughter after two men were fatally stabbed during a confrontation in central Georgetown.
Angelo Answick of Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutors accuse him of unlawfully killing Tyrone Captain, 36, a labourer from Eversham, Corentyne, and Wreford Vincent Trim, 23, a Georgetown vendor also known as “Junior Browne.”
Answick was not required to plead to the indictable charges. He was granted $750,000 bail on each count and is scheduled to return to court Sept. 23 for disclosure of the prosecution’s evidence.
The confrontation occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, on Water Street.
Investigators allege Trim was stabbed once in the neck before running toward Commerce Street, where he collapsed and died. Captain sustained wounds to his neck and chest and later died while receiving treatment at Georgetown Public Hospital.
Police arrested Answick and recovered a knife suspected of being used in the attack.
