Police are hunting a gang of armed robbers who attacked a motorcyclist at Melanie, East Coast Demerara (ECD), late Saturday night and escaped with his motorcycle, cash, and valuables.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the robbery under arms occurred at about 11:00 p.m. and was committed against a 43-year-old self-employed man of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was riding his motorcycle when he noticed two motorcycles trailing him from the vicinity of the Lusignan traffic light.

Police said that after the victim turned onto Melanie Cinema Road, the suspects followed him and rode up alongside him. Investigators alleged that the bandits then caused the man to fall from his motorcycle.

One of the suspects reportedly pulled what appeared to be a handgun from his waist and pointed it at the victim, while the others relieved him of a silver wedding ring, a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra cellphone, $60,000 in cash, and his black XR motorcycle, bearing registration number CR 6379.

The suspects, who were reportedly masked and dressed in dark clothing, then fled the area in a southern direction.

Police said CCTV cameras were seen along the route and will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. The suspects remain at large.
