Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo has assured that the Government is working to clear the housing backlog in nine administrative regions outside of Region Four by the end of next year, as citizens continue to voice concerns over access to housing.

He made the announcement on Tuesday during a government outreach held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, where hundreds of residents met directly with government ministers and agency representatives to raise personal and community issues.

According to Dr. Jagdeo, the administration is working aggressively to address the growing demand for house lots and improve access to housing across the country, particularly in regions where backlogs remain a major challenge.

“We’ve had a difficult time in Region Four because everybody has applied in Region Four, but we are aiming to claim the backlog in all nine regions by the end of next year. So anyone who applied will get their houselot by the end of next year” ,he said.

The outreach saw residents raising a wide range of concerns, including delays in land allocation, unemployment, drainage and road issues, and access to utilities and public services. Government officials were stationed at various booths to provide updates, process complaints, and assist citizens with pending matters.

Dr. Jagdeo said the outreach initiative forms part of the government’s wider effort to maintain direct engagement with citizens and ensure faster responses to issues affecting communities nationwide.
