The Attorney General’s Chambers has completed a package of legislative amendments targeting noise nuisance and garbage offences, with community service among the proposed penalties, Attorney General Anil Nandlall, SC, has disclosed.

Speaking on the Starting Point podcast, Nandlall said the amendments were prepared on Cabinet’s instructions and would address problems affecting communities, including the dumping of debris and the placement of garbage on public roadways.

He described the measures as “comprehensive, punitive in nature, with community service as a penalty attached to it.”

The proposed changes also cover garbage collection and noise nuisance, which Nandlall identified as everyday concerns requiring attention alongside the legislative demands of Guyana’s expanding economy.

The announcement provides an update on reforms previously outlined by the Government to strengthen enforcement against public nuisance offences.
