The driver of a motor lorry and the driver of a minibus involved in the fatal Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) crash that claimed the life of a passenger have been remanded to prison after being charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Charged are 55-year-old Kord Sobers of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), the driver of motor lorry GAF 1093, and 31-year-old Colin Cumberbatch of Kitty, Georgetown, who was driving minibus BAH 9443 at the time of the accident.
The charges stem from the June 20, 2026, collision along the Providence Public Road, which resulted in the death of 36-year-old Ruddy Raymond of Jonestown, Lima, Essequibo Coast.

Sobers and Cumberbatch appeared on Monday before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Court, where the indictable charges were read to them under Section 35(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) Act No. 16 of 1998.
The men were not required to enter pleas and were remanded to prison until July 10, 2026, when the matter will be called again for report.
Police investigations revealed that the accident occurred at about 17:00 hrs on the Providence Public Road and involved a minibus, a motor lorry, and a motor car.
According to investigators, the lorry allegedly made a sharp right turn into the path of the northbound minibus, causing a collision. The minibus subsequently struck the median, crossed into the opposite carriageway, toppled onto its side, and collided with an oncoming motor car.
Raymond, who was a passenger in the minibus, was pronounced dead at the scene, while several other occupants sustained injuries.
