A 22-year-old Venezuelan migrant lost his life on Saturday night after an accident involving an electric cycle and a motor car at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice.

Dead is Manuel Rangel, who had been living in the community.

According to reports, the accident occurred at around 8:00 p.m. as a motor car was proceeding east along the public road. It is alleged that Rangel rode onto the roadway on his electric cycle and collided with the vehicle.

The impact threw the young man onto the road, leaving him with serious injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and rushed him to the Bath Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed while receiving treatment.

Persons close to Rangel said he had travelled from Venezuela to Guyana in search of work so he could help support his family amid the economic difficulties in his home country.

A colleague told reporters that Rangel’s wife is pregnant and that several of his relatives are also living and working in Guyana.
