A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Thursday following a collision with a pickup along the Barrack Retreat Corridor in Lethem, Region Nine.
Dead is Barth Paul, of St. Ignatius Village, Region Nine. According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the fatal accident occurred at about 13:00 hrs on Thursday, November 13, 2025, and involved a Brazil-registered motorcycle, bearing licence plate PYP 7J16, which Paul was riding, and a Brazil-registered motor pickup, licence plate OAA 8G45, driven by a 46-year-old Brazilian national of Central Lethem.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the motorcycle was travelling west along the southern carriageway, while the pickup was proceeding north along the western carriageway. At the junction where the two paths met, a collision occurred between the vehicles.
As a result of the impact, Paul was thrown onto the roadway, where he sustained head injuries and other injuries to his body.
Emergency Medical Technicians from the Lethem Regional Hospital arrived at the scene and transported Paul to the facility, where he was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead on arrival.
His body was placed in the hospital’s mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the pickup has been taken into custody as investigations continue.
