Overseas-based Guyanese, 21, killed in Corentyne crash

A 21-year-old overseas-based Guyanese man died on Monday afternoon after the unregistered motorcycle he was riding collided with a motorcar on the Number 64 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to reports, the accident occurred around 13:00h as the motorcycle was travelling south along the eastern drive lane at a reportedly high speed.

The rider was identified as Jadheo Bhimsingh of Number 63 Village, Corentyne. Police noted that he was allegedly unlicensed and was not wearing a safety helmet at the time.

The motorcar involved, PKK 5792, was proceeding along the western drive lane and was driven by a 60-year-old man from Number 64 Village, Corentyne. Police said the motorcycle struck the vehicle, and the force of the impact threw the rider onto the eastern grass parapet, causing injuries to his body.

Public-spirited citizens rushed to assist and transported Bhimsingh to the Number 75 Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said a breathalyser test was administered to the driver and readings of seven and eight micrograms were recorded. The driver has been taken into custody as the investigation continues.
