Twelve Guyanese nationals were deported from the United States to Guyana on Tuesday, with two of them now in police custody, according to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
In a statement, police said the deportees arrived in Guyana on April 21, 2026, and were all interviewed and profiled by the relevant authorities upon arrival.
Following that process, ten of the deportees were released into the care of relatives, with instructions to return at a later date. Police said the remaining two men were taken into custody in relation to separate matters.
One is a 42-year-old man whose address is unknown and who is being held in connection with a murder matter. The second is a 35-year-old man of no fixed place of abode who is in custody in relation to a domestic violence offence.
The Police Force said the matter was dealt with in accordance with established procedures.
