A 19-year-old gold miner is in serious condition after he and a 57-year-old woman were allegedly attacked Monday night at Agatash Village, Bartica.
Police said the alleged attempted murder occurred around 9:30 p.m. and involved a 57-year-old housewife and a 19-year-old gold miner, both of Agatash Village.
According to preliminary investigations, the two victims were allegedly attacked by a 30-year-old miner from the same village during an incident at the location.
Both victims sustained injuries and were taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where they were examined, treated and admitted.
Police said the 19-year-old miner was later referred to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital for further medical attention. His condition is listed as serious.
The 57-year-old woman remains in stable condition. The suspect was later apprehended and handed over to police. He is in custody assisting with the investigation. Investigations are ongoing.
