Three farmers, including a husband and wife, were found dead at separate points near a camp at Aranka Village, Baramita, North West District, following an alleged cutlass and knife confrontation on Saturday morning.
The dead have been identified as Joy John, 40; her husband, Amar Thomas, 38; and Tony Williams, 62.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m.
Preliminary investigations indicate that John and Thomas lived with their five-year-old son at a camp in the area, while Williams lived at another camp approximately 20 miles away.
Police said Williams allegedly went to the couple’s camp, where an argument developed between him and John. During the confrontation, Williams allegedly chopped John to the neck with a cutlass.
Thomas, who was reportedly returning from his farm, subsequently confronted Williams.
Police said an altercation followed between the two men, during which they allegedly inflicted injuries on each other with sharp objects.
John was later found motionless at the camp, while Thomas was discovered approximately 50 feet away. Williams was found about 100 feet from the camp along a track.
Police ranks travelled to the location on Sunday and examined the bodies.
John was observed with a wound to her neck, while Thomas had a stab wound to his left groin area. Williams was found with a stab wound to the left side of his chest, police said.
The bodies were transported to the Baramita Cottage Hospital, where all three were pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
Their remains have since been placed at the hospital’s mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the triple fatality are continuing.
