Teen unconscious after cutlass altercation at Sheet Anchor

A 19-year-old man is hospitalised in an unconscious state after a misunderstanding with three of his cousins reportedly escalated into a cutlass confrontation at Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje, Berbice.

The incident occurred at about 22:00hrs on Friday. According to initial investigations, the 19-year-old unemployed man, who is from Sheet Anchor Village, was in the company of a 27-year-old woman when he became involved in a misunderstanding with three male cousins.

Police said two of the cousins are 19 years old, while the other is 18. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the parties allegedly armed themselves with cutlasses and assaulted each other.

The 19-year-old was later pulled away from the confrontation by the 27-year-old woman. Police said that about five minutes later, he collapsed and lost consciousness.

He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was admitted in an unconscious state. He remains under medical observation and is awaiting the results of a CT scan.

Police said no visible wounds were observed on the exposed parts of his body. Detectives visited the scene at about 22:10hrs.

Two of the alleged participants, ages 19 and 18, are presently in custody at the Central Police Station and are assisting with the investigation. Investigations are ongoing.
