Police are investigating a fatal industrial incident that claimed the life of a serviceman at Morwa Backdam, Cuyuni River, on Tuesday afternoon.
Dead is Dillon Tobin of Manawarin Village, Moruca, North West District. According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred at about 14:30hrs while a 47-year-old excavator operator was operating a Doosan 225 excavator at the mining location.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Tobin was seated on the machine when a tree branch reportedly recoiled and struck him. The impact caused him to fall from the excavator.
Police said the excavator operator immediately rendered assistance, but Tobin later became motionless. His body remains at the mining camp.
Police ranks are en route to the scene as investigations continue.
