Police are investigating a five-vehicle accident that occurred on Monday morning at the intersection of Conversation Tree Road and Railway Embankment, Blygezight, Georgetown.
The accident occurred at about 08:50hrs and involved motor jeep PAD 3891, driven by a 58-year-old member of the Guyana Fire Service of Hand-en-Veldt, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, and motor cars PAG 3236, PGG 9135, PAN 4053 and PAB 2512.
According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that the jeep was proceeding south along Conversation Tree Public Road when it approached the intersection.
At the time, the traffic light was reportedly showing red in the direction of the jeep.
Police said the driver allegedly overtook two stationary vehicles and entered the intersection, where the jeep collided with motor car PAG 3236.
That car was proceeding west along Railway Embankment Road, with the traffic light reportedly showing green in its direction.
As a result of the impact, the jeep reportedly lost control, while motor car PAG 3236 continued forward and collided with three other motor cars, PGG 9135, PAN 4053 and PAB 2512, which were stationary on Blygezight Public Road.
The driver of motor car PGG 9135, a 28-year-old man of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, sustained injuries about his body.
He was taken by ambulance to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was examined by a doctor and admitted with a fractured right shoulder and lacerations to his face.
He was later treated and discharged. Police said breathalyser tests were conducted on all drivers, and all readings were below the prescribed limit.
Investigators also observed CCTV cameras in the area, and the footage is being processed as investigations continue.
