A 26-year-old Venezuelan national is in police custody after ranks on patrol in Georgetown allegedly found him armed with a revolver on Saturday night.

Police in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ said the discovery was made at about 8:00 p.m. during a patrol at Regent and Light Streets.

According to investigators, ranks were on mobile patrol duty in Regent Street when they received information about an individual reportedly carrying a suspected firearm.

Acting on the tip, police went to the area of Regent and Light Streets, where they contacted the suspect, who is said to live at Light and Cummings Streets.

Police said that upon seeing the ranks, the man allegedly attempted to pull what appeared to be a firearm from the right side of his waistband.

A .38 revolver containing five spent .38 shells in the chamber was immediately taken from him, police said.

The suspect was asked whether he was the holder of a valid firearm licence and reportedly told ranks that he was not.

He was then arrested and taken to the Alberttown Police Station along with the weapon, which has since been lodged pending further investigations.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
