A Trans Guyana Airways aircraft carrying 14 people ran off the runway on Tuesday evening while landing at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Ogle, but no one was injured.

In a statement, the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority said the incident involved a Beechcraft 1900 aircraft, registration 8R-GAQ, which had arrived on an inbound flight from Suriname.

The agency said the aircraft departed the runway surface after touching down at the airport.

While there were no reports of injuries among the 14 persons on board, the plane’s nose gear was damaged during the incident.

Preliminary information suggests that the runway excursion may have been triggered by wildlife entering the runway as the aircraft was landing.

The GCAA said it has since opened a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the occurrence in keeping with civil aviation safety procedures.
