A 21-year-old motorcyclist died on Sunday morning after his motorcycle collided with a car along the Charity New Road Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
Dead is Stephen Seenauth of Lot 1129 Charity Squatting Area, Region Two. The accident occurred at about 07:45hrs while Seenauth was reportedly riding an unregistered motorcycle along the roadway.
Reports indicate that motor car HD 943 was travelling east along the Charity New Road Public Road at about 60 kilometres per hour and was approaching a southern turn.
At the same time, Seenauth was reportedly proceeding west at a fast rate of speed.
As the car was negotiating the turn, the motorcyclist reportedly overtook another vehicle travelling in the same direction and ended up in the path of the oncoming car.
The driver of the car reportedly swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the motorcycle crashed into the front left side of the vehicle.
Seenauth was thrown from the motorcycle and was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited persons.
He was taken to the Oscar Joseph District Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by a doctor.
The driver of the car has been identified as 43-year-old Leon Featherson, also known as “Match Stick,” of Better Hope Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
He was taken into custody at the Charity Police Station.
A breathalyser test was conducted, and police said Featherson recorded 13 micrograms of alcohol in his breath alcohol content.
