Missing Cuban woman found dead; Police constable arrested

A missing-person investigation involving a 26-year-old Cuban national has taken a grim turn after police recovered her decomposed body in a clump of bushes on the East Coast Demerara.

The dead woman has been identified as Dailen Paneque Gómez, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Paneque Gómez was first reported missing after she was last seen during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026, reportedly while on her way to work.

Police said that following “sustained investigative work” by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters, her body was found at about 19:50 hrs on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in bushes on the East Coast Demerara.

The case is now being treated as a murder investigation. A Police Constable has since been arrested and remains in custody, assisting investigators.

Police have not yet released details on how Paneque Gómez died, the exact location where her body was found, or the circumstances leading to the arrest of the constable.

The Guyana Police Force said investigations are ongoing and that further information will be released as the probe progresses.
