A mid-morning conversation in Wismar, Linden, turned deadly on Wednesday after a man allegedly retrieved a firearm from a car and shot 26-year-old miner Keron McDonald once to the chest.
McDonald, a miner of Block 22, Wismar was reportedly shot at about 10am at Prasville, Wismar, Linden.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), initial investigations revealed that McDonald was speaking with a 29-year-old man from Half Mile, Wismar, when an altercation broke out between them.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly went to a motor car, retrieved a firearm and discharged one round in McDonald’s direction. McDonald was struck to the left side of his chest.
He was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
Police said the 29-year-old suspect was later intercepted by ranks and escorted to the Wismar Police Station, where he remains in custody assisting with the investigation. No firearm has been recovered so far. Investigations are ongoing.
