A 24-year-old mason is in police custody after ranks discovered a firearm during an operation at a social event in Amelia’s Ward, Linden, early Wednesday morning.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that the discovery was made around 00:10 hrs while officers were carrying out duties at the event.
According to police, the suspect was observed behaving suspiciously near the stage area, prompting ranks to approach and conduct a search.
During the search, officers reportedly found a suspected 9mm pistol concealed in the man’s left-side pants pocket.
The suspect, who resides at Block 22, Wismar, Linden, was immediately arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station along with the firearm.
The weapon has since been lodged as evidence while investigators continue their probe into the matter. Police said the suspect remains in custody as the investigation proceeds.
