Two armed and masked bandits invaded a Diamond Housing Scheme home on Wednesday evening, beating one woman and robbing several members of the household before escaping on motorcycles.

Police said the robbery under arms occurred at about 7:00 p.m. and targeted a 53-year-old housewife and a 24-year-old woman, both of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

According to preliminary investigations, the two women had left their home and, upon returning and approaching the door, were confronted by two masked men armed with what appeared to be handguns.

The suspects allegedly robbed the 24-year-old woman of her cellphone, while the older woman was struck to the forehead with one of the weapons and relieved of a purse containing a cellphone and $20,000 in cash.

Police said the gunmen then entered the lower flat of the residence, where they confronted the housewife’s young daughter and her younger siblings. The children were reportedly robbed of a tablet and a cellphone.

After carrying out the attack, the suspects fled the premises and joined two riders on separate black XR motorcycles before escaping in a northern direction. Investigations are ongoing.
