A reported kidnapping involving a 29-year-old Cuban national has taken a dramatic turn after police located the alleged victim in a car at Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), arrested three people, including a police constable, and uncovered inconsistencies in the initial report.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the matter was reported on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, after a 25-year-old Cuban national claimed that the man was being held against his will and that money was being demanded for his release.
Acting on the information, police conducted investigations and reviewed CCTV footage from a location on North Road, Georgetown. Those enquiries later led ranks to Grove, where the alleged victim was found in a motor car with several other persons.
Police said a search of the vehicle turned up an air pistol matching the description of an object seen in a photograph linked to the report. Three persons were arrested and taken into custody. They are a police constable of Grove, a 23-year-old Cuban labourer of Grove and a 41-year-old taxi driver of Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown.
Three others were also detained for questioning. They are a 28-year-old mechanic from Grove, a 47-year-old driver from Grove, and a 34-year-old unemployed Cuban national, also from Grove.
Investigators also seized two motor cars and several cellular phones as part of the probe. Police said the alleged victim was interviewed and also placed into custody.
However, the force said further enquiries have revealed inconsistencies surrounding the original kidnapping complaint, and investigators are now working to determine exactly what transpired. Investigations are ongoing.
