A 28-year-old man of Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice, has turned himself over to police as investigators continue probing the shooting and assault of a woman at Islington Village.
Region Six Police Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed that Damon Morgan went to the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam on Monday, where he was taken into custody.
Police allege that the incident occurred on April 11, 2026, while 27-year-old Vasanti Gordon was seated in her car outside her home at Lot 2 Islington Village, East Bank Berbice.
According to investigators, Morgan approached Gordon while armed with a black handgun and discharged several rounds in the direction of her feet. Police further alleged that he then struck her about the head with the weapon and threatened to kill her.
Gordon was later taken to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital for treatment, where doctors reportedly found four puncture wounds to her right leg and thigh.
After the attack, Morgan had reportedly fled the scene. Commander Bacchus said that upon arriving at the station, Morgan was informed of the allegations against him and was subsequently detained as the investigation continued.
He is expected to be charged.
