Bartica miner remanded to prison over murder of ‘Chiney’

Travis Brewster, a 34-year-old gold miner also known as “Turpin,” has been remanded to prison after he was slapped with a murder charge.

Brewster, of Victory Valley, Wismar, Linden, appeared via Zoom before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where he was charged with the murder of Emmanuel Williams, called “Chiney.”

He was not required to plead to the indictable offence and was remanded until February 27, 2026. Brewster was arrested on Monday, January 26, 2026, at about 15:35 hrs at 14 Mile, Issano Landing, after a wanted bulletin was issued for him.

Investigators said he was wanted in relation to the murder of Ron Clarke, which occurred in Linden on July 17, 2025, and was also a suspect in the January 23, 2026, killing at Issano Landing.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) had reported that Williams was at a bar at 14 Mile Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni, on January 23, 2026, when he became involved in an altercation with a male, during which he sustained a stab injury to his chest.
