Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Monday upheld a no-case submission made by defence attorney Bernard DaSilva on behalf of Cadet Officer Dameion McLennon, resulting in the dismissal of the charge of attempting to obstruct the course of justice in the case related to the fatal police shooting of Quindon Bacchus.
McLennon had been accused of attempting to cover up the circumstances surrounding Bacchus’ death during a police sting operation on June 10, 2022.
The case centred around the police’s initial account of the events, which claimed Bacchus fired at officers before being shot in return fire. However, video evidence later contradicted this version, prompting an investigation by the Police Complaints Authority.
The investigation led to the charge of murder against Lance Corporal Kristoff De Nobrega. The High Court has since dismissed the murder charge against De Nobrega. McLennon, along with Lance Corporal Thurston Simon, was charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice.
