The father of Gavin Douglas is demanding justice following reports that his son died in police custody at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, amid allegations that he was assaulted by officers.

Dead: Gavin Douglas

Devon Douglas, known as “Texas,” accused police of responsibility for his son’s death and alleged that an officer had previously threatened to kill him.

“I need justice. And let it be fast,” Douglas said.

Douglas referred to earlier encounters with police involving his son and claimed that the threat had been made during an interaction at a police station last year.

Reports claimed officers approached Gavin as he was driving out of his yard and asked him to accompany them to the station.

While at the station, allegations surfaced that he was beaten while naked and restrained, subjected to electric shocks from a taser and had water thrown on him while in custody. Further, his father shared photos of marks of violence on his body.

The Guyana Police Force had not issued a statement on the matter at the time of writing.
