A 41-year-old miner died following a confrontation with his nephew at 14 Miles, Arakaka, North West District, on Tuesday morning, according to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Dead is Morvin George, a pork knocker who lived in the area. His 26-year-old nephew has been arrested as police investigate the alleged murder.
Police said preliminary enquiries indicate that the two were involved in an argument around 8:40 a.m. on September 29, which escalated into a confrontation.
During the incident, George sustained injuries about his body and subsequently became motionless. A doctor examined him at the scene and pronounced him dead.
Investigators recovered a cutlass and a piece of wood from the scene and lodged both items as evidence. The police statement did not specify how George’s injuries were inflicted.
His body was taken to the Matthew’s Ridge Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
