Two persons are in police custody following an alleged armed robbery at Covent Garden New Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), during which a 20-year-old auto body technician was robbed of his cellphone.
Police said the incident occurred around 20:00 hrs on Monday, while the victim was walking east along Covent Garden New Scheme with his cellular phone in his hand.
According to preliminary investigations, two males on a motorcycle approached the young man from behind. One of the suspects reportedly got off the motorcycle, pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the victim, and took away his phone.
The suspect then escaped with his accomplice. The matter was later reported to police, and the stolen cellphone was subsequently recovered.
Two suspects, ages 25 and 18, were arrested and taken to the Providence Police Station, where they remain in custody. Investigations are ongoing.
