Two contractors were injured on Tuesday following an incident in the vicinity of the Sophia Substation that also caused a partial disturbance to Guyana’s interconnected power system.
Guyana Power and Light Inc. confirmed that emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and the injured men were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for treatment.
According to the company, both individuals are in stable condition. GPL said it is treating the matter seriously and has launched a joint investigation with its Health and Safety Unit and the Ministry of Labour to determine exactly what occurred.
The company noted that the probe is still ongoing. As a result of the incident, some customers experienced a partial power outage.
In its statement, the utility company extended best wishes to the injured workers and their families and expressed hope for their full and speedy recovery.
