Police are investigating the disappearance of two persons who were reportedly pulled under by strong currents while swimming at Unity Beach, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Sunday afternoon.
Missing are 21-year-old salesgirl Lyodisa Waldron, called “Loyda,” of Victoria Village, and 29-year-old Special Constable Andri Francis, called “Bobby,” of the same address.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. while the pair was swimming at Unity Beach, Unity.
Initial investigations revealed that Waldron allegedly began drifting farther out toward the Atlantic Ocean and called for help. Police said Francis then reportedly went to assist her, but during the rescue attempt, both were pulled under by the current and disappeared.
An alarm was raised, and searches were carried out at the scene and in the surrounding areas of Unity Beach, but up to the time of the report, neither person had been found. Search efforts are continuing as investigations remain ongoing.
