17-year-old fatally stabbed with scissors during alleged horseplay

A 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in the neck on Wednesday evening near the Route 40 Minibus Park on Croal Street, Georgetown.

Dead is Keroy Profit, 17, of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara (EBD). According to police, the incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Profit and another 17-year-old male, who are known to each other, were among a group of students allegedly involved in horseplay when the incident occurred.

Police said that during the confrontation, the other teen, who was reportedly armed with a pair of scissors, allegedly stabbed Profit in the neck. The injured teenager was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he later died while receiving medical treatment.

His body has since been taken to the hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigators said CCTV footage from the area was reviewed and extracted, and several people have already been questioned. The suspect, a 17-year-old boy of Cummings Park, ‘E’ Field, Sophia, was arrested and placed into custody.

He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
