Three men are in police custody after ranks allegedly found a quantity of cannabis during an operation at La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Tuesday night.
According to police, the discovery was made between 7:50 p.m. and 8:16 p.m. during an exercise in the area. Investigators said ranks observed three men at the location, while a fourth man was seen running in a northern direction.
Police pursued the fleeing suspect, but he managed to escape. While combing the area, ranks reportedly discovered a bulky black plastic bag on a dam.
A search of the bag allegedly uncovered a quantity of transparent zip-lock bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The three men who were in the area: a 29-year-old electrical worker of Onion Field, La Bonne Intention; a 34-year-old plumber of Canterbury Walk, Betterverwagting; and a 28-year-old carpenter of Onion Field, La Bonne Intention — were arrested and taken to the Betterverwagting Police Station.
Police said the suspected cannabis was weighed in the men’s presence and amounted to 364 grams before being lodged.
The three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
