President Dr. Irfaan Ali says the first batch of beneficiaries under the government’s $100,000 cash grant programme is expected to receive payments in their bank accounts before the end of this week.

The announcement was made on Thursday during the 136th General Meeting of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown.

Addressing members of the private sector, President Ali said the grant is part of the government’s wider plan to cushion citizens from financial strain while helping to preserve spending power across the economy.

He said the administration sees consumer support as a critical pillar of economic stability and growth.

“We are equally committed to providing relief to consumers, because a strong consumer base is the foundation of a strong economy,” the President said.

Ali told the gathering that the cash transfer programme forms part of a broader strategy to ensure that national growth is felt at the household level and not only reflected in macroeconomic indicators.

He noted that direct support for families remains important at a time when many countries are still facing economic uncertainty linked to ongoing global challenges.

According to the President, Guyana continues to maintain a favourable economic outlook despite international pressures, and the government intends to keep rolling out measures aimed at protecting consumers and advancing development.

The $100,000 grant was part of a series of relief measures announced by the government to put additional disposable income in the hands of citizens while stimulating activity in the wider economy.
