A Police Inspector has been placed under close arrest following allegations that he injured his 14-year-old son in two incidents involving a hammer and an electrical extension cord.

The Guyana Police Force said the 36-year-old officer, of La Grange, West Bank Demerara, is being investigated for alleged assault causing actual bodily harm.

According to preliminary investigations, the inspector allegedly threw a hammer at the teenager during October after the boy reportedly misplaced a key. The hammer struck his left ankle, causing injuries.

Police said a further incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, when the inspector allegedly became angry because the teenager had not completed his household chores.

He reportedly locked the boy inside a bedroom and beat him about his body with an electrical extension cord, causing injuries.

The matter was subsequently reported to the Childcare and Protection Agency, prompting an investigation.

The teenager was interviewed by the relevant authorities and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where a doctor examined him.

Police ranks also visited the location as part of their enquiries. The inspector was placed under close arrest on Wednesday, pending the outcome of the investigation.
