IT technician arrested after viral video shows car driving wrong lane on highway

Police have arrested the driver of a motor car captured on video driving dangerously along the East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the arrest follows a video that surfaced on social media on Sunday, March 8, 2026, showing motor car PAL 3206 being driven in a reckless manner along the busy roadway.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle was proceeding east along the southern carriageway from Beterverwagting Public Road towards Triumph Public Road when the driver allegedly breached the one-way system.

Police said the driver reportedly drove against the flow of traffic, forcing several motorists to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

On Monday, March 9, 2026, at about 10:00 hours, ranks arrested the driver, a 30-year-old Information Technology technician of Martyrs Ville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, at his residence.

He is being held at the Beterverwagting Police Station and is expected to be charged with dangerous driving and a breach of one-way.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, at 09:00hrs.
