A 2-year-old girl was found dead on Saturday afternoon after she reportedly drowned in the Pomeroon River at Kabakaburi Mission, Upper Pomeroon River.
Dead is Samirah Evans, 2, of Kabakaburi Mission. According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), at about 12:30 hours on March 7, 2026, the toddler was at home with her mother when she was later discovered missing.
Following the discovery that the child could not be found, relatives and residents of the community launched a search. At about 17:30 hours, the child’s body was discovered floating in the Pomeroon River in the vicinity of Warapana, approximately one mile from the Kabakaburi Mission landing.
The body was retrieved and escorted to the Oscar Joseph Public Hospital, where it was examined and pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. The body is awaiting a post-mortem examination as police continue their investigations into the incident.
