A 60-year-old South Ruimveldt pensioner was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night after two men on a pedal cycle confronted her while she was walking home through an alleyway.
Police said the alleged robbery under arms occurred around 20:45 hrs on at Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was walking home when she turned into an alleyway and was confronted by two males on a pedal cycle. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a handgun.
Police said the armed suspect allegedly pointed the firearm at the pensioner while the other suspect relieved her of a black shoulder bag. The bag contained a Samsung Galaxy cellphone, a National Identification Card and a bank card.
The suspects then escaped on the pedal cycle in a northern direction. Police said several persons have been questioned. CCTV cameras were also seen in the area and are being reviewed.
No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.
