Two men are in police custody following Saturday’s armed robbery of a contractor who had arrived at a Cottonfield construction site to pay workers.
Police said a .45-calibre pistol, seven live rounds of ammunition, clothing and two ski masks were recovered during operations launched after the robbery on the Essequibo Coast.
The victim, a 44-year-old contractor from Richmond Housing Scheme, was reportedly approached from behind by a masked man around 3:10 p.m.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the contractor and demanded a bag containing cash. The contractor handed over the bag, and the suspect escaped in a black Toyota Allion.
Ranks subsequently conducted operations across Region Two and apprehended a 25-year-old taxi driver from De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
During the operations, police found a haversack inside a motor car containing the pistol, a magazine loaded with seven rounds, clothing and the ski masks.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man whom police listed as being from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), and Linden.
Both men remain in custody at the Anna Regina Police Station. Investigations are continuing.
