Police are investigating the death of a 45-year-old woman whose body was found on the veranda of her Tuschen Housing Scheme home, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), amid reports that she may have been stabbed.
The dead woman has been identified as Sonia Wilson, a mother of one who reportedly worked as a cook at an interior mining camp.
Wilson was reportedly found lying motionless on the veranda of her Phase One, Tuschen Housing Scheme home sometime in the afternoon. Residents said she had last been seen alive earlier that day, around 10:00 a.m.
According to information from persons in the area, the discovery was made after a man who sold household items visited Wilson’s home to follow up on payment for goods she had reportedly taken. He reportedly found her on the veranda and raised an alarm.
Neighbours and relatives were alerted, and police were later summoned to the scene.
Preliminary reports suggest Wilson may have sustained stab wounds, but police are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Persons in the community have also claimed that several individuals were seen in the yard earlier that day, though investigators have not yet confirmed whether that is connected to Wilson’s death.
