Teen girl critical after stabbing at East Bank Berbice; suspect on the run

A 15-year-old girl, Tiana Chapman, is in critical condition after she was stabbed multiple times during an altercation at Heatburn Village, East Bank Berbice, on Tuesday evening.

Police confirmed that the incident occurred at about 19:40hrs on February 24, 2026, and involved the teen, a student of Heatburn Village, and a 28-year-old man who has since gone into hiding.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect went to a residence where the teenager was at the time. An argument reportedly broke out between the two, during which the teen sustained several stab wounds to her body.

She was rushed to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital, where she was treated and admitted to the Emergency Unit. Her condition has been listed as critical.

Police said efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect, who remains at large.

Investigations are continuing as officers work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and address all relevant offences under the law.
