Xavier Fraser, a 27-year-old taxi driver, was shot on Sunday night at Mercy Wing, Plum Park, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
In a release, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the incident occurred at about 22:36 hrs on December 21, 2025. Preliminary investigations indicate that Fraser was at the location when he sustained gunshot injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear and are being actively investigated. Fraser was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
Police also confirmed that a 19-year-old male, also of Plum Park, was injured during the incident. He was admitted to the same hospital and remains in stable condition.
The deceased’s body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination, police said. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage as the probe continues.
