Police have seized six cutlasses and other items from a residence at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, as investigations continue into the murder of six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran.
The Guyana Police Force said the search formed part of further enquiries conducted on Tuesday, October 20. Investigators also recovered several items described as having evidential value at Waterloo Main Canal, where the alleged killing reportedly occurred.
All recovered items have been lodged as exhibits. Police have not disclosed whether any of the cutlasses has been linked to the child’s death or identified the occupants of the residence searched.
Two males, including the child’s father, remain in custody assisting with the investigation.
The latest development follows the discovery on Tuesday of a partially decomposed body suspected to be Orlando’s in the Waterloo Main Canal.
According to an earlier police statement, preliminary investigations indicated that the child was taken to the canal and allegedly struck on the neck with a cutlass.
A search party comprising police ranks and civilians found the body after investigators received information concerning the circumstances of the child’s death.
Police said the head and portions of the left hand and right foot were missing. The statement did not establish how those body parts came to be missing.
The remains were taken to the Bath Regional Hospital, where a doctor pronounced the child dead, before being transferred to Bailey’s Funeral Home for formal identification and a post-mortem examination.
